PSN Store Movie Purchases

And why you shouldn't buy any movies on there ...

You only get one download of any movie purchased on the PSN Store. If something happens, like a corrupted hard drive, or my little mistake as described in this post, you can't download the movie again.

Straight from Playstation help pages:

"Content cannot be re-downloaded once it has been downloaded to either a PLAYSTATION 3 or PSP system"

I've read that it's possible to get another download, just once, by contacting support, but can't personally confirm that. The couple of movie purchases I made are gone, can't be re-downloaded, and I'm not going to bother contacting Sony support to try and get them again.

I'm sure many other people feel the same way, judging by the comments on the Official Playstation blog:

What? Are they actually paying attention? Now with FW 2.70 you can back up your movie purchases? I'll have to try it to believe it. And to do that they'll need to grant me another download of the movie I purchased and can't download again ...

While the addition of such a feature is useful, it doesn't quite motivate me to purchase any PSN movies.

Yes, having lost one movie and one TV episode I paid for already, I'm not too motivated to do so either. I think I'd rather purchase a hardcopy, especially considering that you don't save much, if any, by purchasing a download version.

The whole experience I had with it so far has only motivated me to pursue other "options" ...

Absolutely. There's no incentive to purchase a digital copy. Hard copies are similarly priced and easily converted into digital copies (that work flawlessly with my PS3 and iPod).

I'm sure that played a large part in their decision making.
