YDL 6.2 version of PS3Bodega Repo

Postby billb on Sat Oct 10, 2009 11:48 am

I'm almost ready with the YDL 6.2 version of the ps3bodega software repository ... in this version I've removed nearly everything from Livna as well as a number of packages that have now been added to yellowdog-extras. Also, it will no longer be necessary to use fedora-extras, so the ps3bodega repo will be the only one you need to add to the default YDL repos.

At this point I believe I've installed and tested nearly all the packages on a fresh install of YDL 6.2 and only had to add a couple of packages.

Initially I'll only have emulators, games, Opera 10, and a few major updates for YDL (such as Qt4 4.5.2). Next I want to add updated gstreamer packages as well as the "bad" and "ugly" ones not included with YDL. If that doesn't allow for YDL's default media player (totem) to play a good range of file types then I'll see about adding an updated build of VLC.

Once that's up and running I'll start looking at updating packages again. :mrgreen:

Good to here. Guess it's time I switch over to 6.2 permanently. Thank you for all your hard work and time Bill.

Cheers,

I wanted to include gstreamer-plugins-ugly, gstreamer-plugins-bad, and gstreamer-ffmpeg in the 6.2 version of the repo (for mp3 audio playback and various video formats)... sounded simple enough. I ended up having to rebuild a good number of other packages as dependencies, but I think it's finally about ready! :mrgreen:

That sounds good -- also for QMC2 (to use Phonon / the built-in MP3 player) ;)!

Argh... my gstreamer stuff was working OK, but on testing the versions I have in the repo on a fresh install of YDL 6.2 I'm getting lots of crashes. Grrr. Back to work ... :x

Shit... but you will get it fixed, I'm sure :mrgreen: !

While we're at it... a proposed goodie for your repo:
http://sourceforge.net/projects/romwiz/

It's easy to use, nice enough, and it "just works"(TM).

Found one problem so far -- gstreamer-plugins-bad was built with directfb enabled that's probably not needed on the PS3 with no access to hardware acceleration.

Nice -- thanks for giving me something else to do! LOL No really it looks good. ;)

It is uploaded and working now, just not to a point where I'm happy with it. There are currently some issues with the additional gstreamer plugins for totem, but the emulators & games should work fine.

If you want to go ahead and try using it, here's how the repo file should look:

/etc/yum.repos.d/ps3bodega.repo
Code: Select all
[PS3Bodega]
name=PS3Bodega.com YellowDog Compatible Packages
baseurl=http://pleasantfiction.ipower.com/ps3linux/ps3bodega62/ppc/
gpgcheck=0
enabled=1

It is designed to be used without fedora-extras since Yellowdog 6.2 now has it's own yellowdog-extras repo. So you should just have yellowdog-base.repo, yellowdog-updates.repo, yellowdog-extras.repo, and ps3bodega.repo. No longer using yum-protectbase, either.
